Here are the quickest and fastest electric cars currently on sale, with one of them boasting an unthinkable top speed of more than 258 mph.

The 2022 Tesla Model X Plaid is a large SUV that can take you on a road trip of up to 313 miles on a single charge, but it also happens to be one of the quickest and fastest electric cars when it comes to the straight-line sprint. This is largely down to its quartet of electric motors, which can whip the two-tonne SUV from rest to 62 mph in just 2.6 ticks on its way to a top speed of 185 mph.

Rimac’s limited-production C_Two is a beast of a machine, with the Croatian company’s all-electric supercar capable of blitzing from rest to 62 mph in under three seconds and hitting 186 mph when the road opens up. In fact, it is so fast that it set the record for the fastest EV at its unveiling and remains there to this day.

If you’re looking for something more compact, check out the BMW i4 M50. This sporty five-door can hit 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and dispatch the quarter mile in under 11 seconds with its 536 combined horsepower from its electric motors on each axle.

Another electric supercar that has us scratching our heads is the Hispano Drako GTE. Based on the Karma Revero GT, this electric limo has some pretty impressive performance stats. Hispano says the Drako can reach a mind-blowing 206 mph when given enough tarmac and will cost you more than $3 million if you want to buy one.

Not to be outdone, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S is also incredibly quick and can hit 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 162 mph. Unlike some of the other electric vehicles in this list, it doesn’t use conventional powertrain technology, but instead packs a mighty 580-horsepower, all-wheel drive system with its two electric motors on each axle for optimal traction. This makes it a little faster than the Tesla Model 3 Performance but still far behind the best of the conventional gasoline-powered cars on this list.
